Projects - Earl MacDonald's artistic and educational preoccupations

Bands and Performance Settings

Earl leads a wide array of ensembles ranging from a duo to his 17-piece big band. Like many creative individuals, Earl likes to “switch things up” to keep himself feeling energized and inspired.

Composing & Arranging

Through composing and arranging Earl has forged a distinctive musical voice which critics have described as startlingly original, fresh, and visionary. His output is prolific and spans a wide range of instrumentations.

Guest Conducting

Conducting all-state and regional high school groups gives Earl the opportunity to exercise one of his greatest passions — sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the jazz art form with young people.

Workshops & Clinics

Earl has presented workshops, clinics and master classes at educational conferences, high schools, and universities across North America. Click on the heading above for lists and detailed outlines of the numerous topics on which he can present and share his extensive insights.

Monk Mondays

Every Monday in 2003, Earl posts brief solo piano versions of Thelonious Monk songs on social media. The videos are collected here.
