The UConn Jazz 10tet, directed by Professor Earl MacDonald, will play the music of Dr. John Mills, the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Mills’ exciting, contemporary compositions are reminiscent of Weather Report, the Brecker Brothers, and popular Brazilian music.The 10tet’s unique instrumentation of 3 saxophones, 3 brass, piano, electric guitar, bass and drums provides a wide palette of musical colors. The relatively small size puts the onus on each individual player to accurately play their intricate parts, resulting in an impressive, blending, cohesive whole.
